This study is just one part of the growing body of evidence showing the positive relationship between nature and happiness, often called ecotherapy. The study used survey data from more than 19,000 participants in the United Kingdom, who were quizzed about their time spent in nature. A study published in Scientific Reports in 2019 found that at least two hours a week in nature is associated with good health and wellbeing. Research shows that feeling connected to nature (or Country) can make us happier and healthier. But aside from that, we aim to leave nothing but footprints. Our Ancestors shaped the continent with cultural burning and fire management, farming and agriculture. Country provides for and nourishes us, while we manage and sustain Country through culture and ceremony. We have a meaningful reliance on one another where we don’t just take, but we give. Country embodies all aspects of First Nations existence - culture, language, spirituality and Law.įirst Nations people have a deep interconnectedness with Country. Country is fundamental to First Nations identities and goes far beyond the physical. ![]() It is our common ground.įor First Nations people, everything in the natural world (plus more) can be summed up in a word: Country. ![]() This is a symptom of our shared humanity. We can all find beauty and inspiration in the natural world.
